Let’s face it, if you live in a home you’re going to deal with mold at some point. If your house is warm, cozy, has a few dark corners and a little bit of moisture, you’ve made a lovely space for mold to grow. You’re going to have it eventually, you might as well know how to clean it.

Do you love a long, hot shower at the end of the day? So does your mold! Bathrooms are the most common spaces to find mold in your home. Mold spores may be accumulating underneath your shampoo bottles, at the corners of the walls, underneath soap dispensers, in the creases of your faucets, underneath your sink, behind your toilet, or lurking in the grout lines of your tile. Mold may also be lurking in your window sills if they haven't been cleaned in awhile, in the laundry room, in the kitchen, your basement, or anywhere cool and damp in your home.
When you find some mold, it’s important you know how to clean it up! If you have a lot of mold, you’ll have to call in professionals to deal with it right away. If it’s a small amount of surface mold, we can show you how to clean it up yourself. We’ll break down the process for you in some easy steps. First, remember that even with small amounts of surface mold, it’s important to protect yourself from the mold itself and the chemicals with a long sleeved shirt, long pants, rubber gloves and goggles. Once you’re dressed properly and protected, gather the following items together:
White Vinegar
Bleach
3% Hydrogen Peroxide
Two Spray Bottles
A Scrubbing Brush
Mix together your bleach and water solution. You’ll want to have one part bleach to three parts water in your first spray bottle.
Spray this solution onto your mold and let it soak for 15-20 minutes.
Once it’s been 15-20 minutes, take your scrub brush and scrub the mold off of the surface.
Repeat this process until you have scrubbed all the visible mold away.
Once the surface appears clean, use your second spray bottle and make a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide.
Spray this solution onto the surface and allow it to air dry.
You’re done!
By using two mixtures of solutions, you are addressing several types of mold that may exist and cleaning it all up at once. Once you’re finished cleaning, don’t forget to throw your scrub brush away.
